Keppra

I've been dealing with horrific rash the last month or more. When it first appeared it was on my left arm with no symptoms of itching or burning. I went to see my neurologist to see if it was Keppra that I just started on for my seizures and she said it looked like contact dermatitis  and then she upped my dose; oh wow did things get worse for me. I went to the ER many times, saw many doctors and specialist to figure out what was wrong. I even got a biopsy done on my skin. For the longest time everyone was telling me it was contact dermatitis and that its something in my environment. So, I eliminated any dyes, perfumes, harsh soaps or chemicals and nothing was getting better. Once again went to the doctors office and they gave me all the allergy medicine one could get and it only relieved my symptoms a little but never fixed it. I even took oral and topical steroids for awhile.

I thought maybe it was scabies, bed bugs, fleas......I had a exterminator come out to check my house for any bugs and nothing. After two weeks of upping my dose on Keppra I decided I'm going to stop taking it even though my neurologist didn't think it had anything to do with my rash. I took pictures to document how bad everything had gotten. Well to my surprise I started to feel better and my rash isn't as severe, thank god. I still have some issues currently, but nothing compared to this last month! I felt like I was scratching my skin off, so I didn't just itch it burned and hurt as well. Last Monday I saw my neurologist after the fact and told her everything. She apologized to me and told me she didn't think it was Keppra because when she first saw the rash it didn't look like a chemical reaction; Oh boy was she wrong!

I spent a lot of money and time just to figure out what was happening to me. I rented a hotel stay for 3 days which isn't cheap; I did this just in case it was something in my environment which it wasn't. Then paid for a exterminator to come out just to tell me their are no pests around. Oh and of course washing all my clothes and sheets just in case it could be scented items. Buying all new organic free from dyes and perfume products to wash all my clothes in to no avail. On top of everything else I haven't worked in a month so, I had to use my savings.

So, a lesson learned if you have a strong suspicion it's a medication doing this to you despite what you're doctor says I say go with you're gut. Because if we looked at my history I never had eczema, contact dermatitis, allergies to dyes/ perfumes and so why would I now?
